As Head of International Relations for Del-York International, I will co-curate the first Nollywood film festival in South AmericaBem-vindo a Nollywood. Kinopedia Ltd founder and Festival co-curator Alex Andrade first approached me in June with the initiative, which will be held from 18 November–4 December 2011 in São Paulo, Brazil and supported by the Departamento de Expansão Cultural da Secretaria de Cultura, Prefeitura de São Paulo. We are proud to honor respected director Tunde Kelani‘s films and to celebrate the Yoruba culture and traditions shared by Brazil and Nigeria.

According to Kelani, “The list of nine films selected for the Festival are important because the films are valuable not only to the Yorubas in the homeland, but especially to Yorubas in the Diaspora, who despite 200 years to 300 years of slave-trade, have remained true and close to the culture.”

Bem-vindo a Nollywood will formally introduce Nigerian films to Brazilian audiences and contribute to establishing the industry on the international stage, thus growing Nollywood’s export potential and multiplying its ability to create employment.
